Float through the air, surrender into a silk hammock and indulge in a soulful yoga practice.
Aerial Yoga offers a beautiful opportunity to bring an added layer of support and surrender to your yoga practice. Held by a silk hammock, you will journey through a full yoga practice with the added bonus of flipping upside down and flying above the ground. Is it fun and playful? Yes. Is it still a deeply meditative practice? Absolutely.
Whether you’re completely new to aerial or not, you can join me for a mixed level aerial yoga class in Southampton or Botley, as well as retreats around Hampshire.
Weekly classes
YMCA Fairthorne Manor Botley - Thursdays 6:00 - 7:00pm + 7:15 - 8:15pm
I teach two back to back classes in Botley every Thursday evening. Classes have capacity for eight students each, and you’ll be joining the most wonderful, welcoming and friendly group of students!
Each week, the class will flow through an opening meditation, warm up, flows and postures you will recognise from a mat-based yoga class, our ‘trick’ section (time to get upside down!) and then settling into our closing stretches and floating savasana.
Even if you have never done a mat-based yoga class, you are SO welcome here. The class is a very mixed ability and options are offered throughout.
What makes Aerial Yoga so different?
Other than the fact that you’re floating through the air? Truly, one of the best things about aerial yoga is the sense of community that it creates. Classes tend to be much smaller, and you’re all there cheering one another on, giving things a go (and not caring if it doesn’t go how you’d pictured it!) and having a real laugh. It’s a totally different energy to a traditional yoga class, and you’ll leave feeling energised and exhilarated, while knowing you’ve given your body and mind a much- needed rest.
FAQs
How much do classes cost?
A regular aerial yoga class with me costs £15 or you can buy a five class pass for £70 (making the classes £14 each). I also run workshops, day retreats and weekend retreats that vary in price from £35 upwards.
Can I do aerial yoga while pregnant?
Unfortunately, no. It is not recommended that pregnant people take part in aerial yoga, and it is not something that I am comfortable facilitating.
Is aerial yoga safe?
Yes! The average aerial hammock can hold 170kg - they are VERY strong. You’ll be guided carefully and slowly; plus, if at any point you feel like you need extra support, I’ll be right there behind you. However, if you have glaucoma, bone or joint disorders, high or low blood pressure, herniated discs or recent surgery, please speak to your doctor before joining a class - we will also have a conversation to discuss potential changes we can make to the practice.
What can I expect from an aerial yoga class?
Essentially, everything that you can expect from a mat-based class! We will journey through meditation, breath work, grounding, flow and savasana. There will also be chances for you to explore postures and flows completely different to a typical asana practice - aka, flipping upside down and taking flight!
